Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor Breaks Shoulder in Fall at Home

On Monday morning, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, 63, broke her left shoulder in fall at her home. According to a statement released by the court’s spokeswoman Kathy Arberg, Sotomayer will be wearing a sling for several weeks and have to undergo physical therapy for her injury. Sotomayer has been able to continue her regular work schedule since she is right-handed, attending the court’s argument sessions on Monday and Tuesday.

This is the second medical emergency for the liberal justice this year. In January, paramedics treated Sotomayer who is a diabetic for low blood sugar at her Washington home. She was able to return to work soon after the incident.

Sotomayor also fell on June 8th, 2009 and broker her ankle. She was rushing through New York’s LaGuardia airport at the time of the accident.

Details of what lead to Sotomayer’s most recent fall accident have not been released.
